Production update 2020-11-15
Added 2020-11-16 00:37:50 +0000 UTCHello!
First of all, apologies for sparse updates. I've been working slower than I should have been, and I guess the update frequency sort of followed.
I've been progressing more in the past few days though, and here's where I am right now:
The script is complete. There might be some tweaks left and right still, but it's complete, it's been proofread by Lack and another Zelda 1 expert, and it's a nice 13 pages long. In fact, it ranks #2 in length across all my scripts in terms of word count:
- SMB3 Credits Warp: 2550w
- SMB1 4:56.462: 4399w
- SMB1 4:55: 4603w
- SMB3 No WW: 5189w
- OoT Wrong Warp: 6957w
- SM64 1 Key TAS: 7561w
- Zelda 1: 7577w
- DK64 TAS: 8664w
Along with the length of the run itself, I'm expecting the video to be the longest I've ever produced - possibly over an hour.
How about recording? Well, I've progressed on that front as well! Recording is 42% complete. I'm doing about a page and a half per day, so I should have another 5-6 days ahead of me.
Now, how about editing? Surely, I haven't started to actually edit, right? Well, yes, yes I did! I finally put together a proper piano song to put on the intro, and I just edited the intro today. So, I guess you could say I have about 1% of the editing done as well. In fact, there's a surprise at the bottom of this post.
To sum it up:
- Script: 100% complete
- Recording: 42% complete
- Editing: 1% complete
Now, I'm unhappy with how slowly I've been working for the past two months, and I want to address this problem. So, I've decided to set myself some deadlines, and I figured I'd share them with you to make them official. Here's my roadmap for the rest of the video making process:
- November 21st: 10 minutes edited and script fully recorded
- November 26th: 20 minutes edited
- December 1st: 30 minutes edited
- December 6th: 40 minutes edited
- December 11th: 50 minutes edited
- December 16th: Video ready for release
I've shown in the past that I can definitely work at a pace of 3 minutes per day, so I can get ahead of this schedule if I work well. Also, this video's editing will be nowhere near the intensity of editing as the SMB3 Credits warp video and the more complex parts of SM64 - there will be tricky sections, but overall, it will be fairly smooth sailing throughout. One challenge is that even the sections without commentary will have editing involved, because I'll be adding information on top of what Lack already had on his stream layout, so I'll need to keep that up to date throughout the run. Unfortunately, that means there will be no "slap the run video for the next 3 minutes", and everything will require at least some work.
Alright, now for the surprise. Like I said, I put together an intro. Well, I'd like to share it with you guys! As you know, I decided to make a shift towards recording my own music for my videos to avoid potential headaches with DMCA claims. I made my own piano arrangement based off Breath of the Wild's Kass's interpretation of the main Zelda theme. I'd like to know what you think about it, and if I should keep doing this, or find something else for my background music.
Here is the intro!
What do you think I should do for the music going forward?
Comments
It does, but the plan is to build myself a library of usable, loopable music that I can apply to my videos when I want. So, I see it as a big initial time investment that will gradually become lower effort over time.
