Production update 2020-07-15
Added 2020-07-15 15:42:12 +0000 UTCHello!
Despite this update being a bit later than planned, the move actually went well. However, there were more things to do than we originally thought, and we're still not done with getting everything cleaned up and decorated to our taste. I do have a fully functional space to work in now, which is nice.
Part 1: The apartment
After moving in, we had to clean everything, of course. The kitchen had these ugly fake wood, MACtac-like adhesive covers on all the cabinets, and we decided to strip them all away. That, combined with cleaning all of them of the sticky residue, was quite the ordeal. We had to install all the appliances we bought, had to purchase a bunch of stuff we didn't expect we'd need, removed a few obsolete/unappealing features, etc. - there's a lot of work we didn't think we'd have to do to get this place looking great.
We have a garage, but it went unused for years. There was a lot of old construction materials and random junk in it, with a very thick layer of dust. Getting that moderately cleaned up took a whole afternoon.
We still have many things left to do. As of today, the floors are only cleaned in half the apartment, and most of the walls have yet to be cleaned. We won't need to clean them too thoroughly, though. Previous tenants did a pretty appalling patching job, leaving a ton of holes, nails in walls, and ridiculous-looking patches everywhere. So, we need to sand these, patch the holes properly, and give the whole place a fresh coat of paint. At least, the walls are already white, so a single coat should do the trick. We also have no decoration laid out at all, so everything looks pretty bare. We're gonna wait until the walls are repainted for that.
We also found the kitchen sink to have no sealant, so water leaks from between the sink and the counter top and ends up inside the cabinet. Obviously, that properly ruined the inside shelf, so we're gonna have to saw it off once we're done sealing the sink up. There's some work to be done on the outside, too. We're gonna lay down some turf and get some grass to grow in the backyard, and properly outline the parking spot.
Doing all of this is very energy and time consuming, so we slowed down the pace a lot after the first week. My girlfriend works full time where I used to work, so an outdoors, somewhat physically demanding job that leaves you pretty drained at the end of the day. We're pretty tired these days. So, for now, I'm gonna have to delay the apartment tour for a little bit. It might only come towards the end of the month, when we're completely settled and pretty much all the work on the apartment is done.
Part 2: The video
I started working again around the same time last week. I had a temporary desk with a bad chair and only one screen for a while, but now I've got a proper setup. I managed to get up to 6 minutes of edited video, so about 20% of the way. It's not much, but as I'm now getting into a proper schedule, it should speed up significantly from now on. I made some pretty cool graphics in the past week and I'm proud of them. Here's a bit of a sneak peek.

I'm looking forward to progressing a lot faster and getting this new video out! The end of the month would be a bit optimistic, but not impossible. I'm expecting sometime in early August, maybe between the 1st and the 10th. In the meantime, I'll keep updating you guys regularly.
Thank you, and see you next time!

For some work, the landlord will pay for materials but we'd rather not have to wait for simple stuff like fixing the sink. It's just that all these little things add up. Most of the work we're doing on the apartment is our own aesthetic choice, so aside from making sure it's alright with the landlords, we're doing it on our own.
