Production update 2019-12-02

Wow, another week already!

Alright, here's what's been going on.

I spent quite some time trying to set things up to be able to record good quality footage for the video. I eventually settled on using glank's OoT Practice ROM. BizHawk kept crashing when trying to record a TAS, the practice rom macro tools are kind of barebones and a bit annoying to use on emulator (since the save/load functions require an SD card on an everdrive), so I settled on good old Mupen with Jabo. Doesn't look incredible, but it's fine.

I went to work, took me a few hours to find the right memory values to watch and add on screen, and I finally got going on some capturing yesterday.

However, I ran into two issues. The first one is, I changed my mind. I'm changing how I'm approaching the first section of the first part, switching to the same example as the second section, so it makes much more sense to follow. I've been considering it for a while, and it's been itching my mind more and more as time went by, so I'm biting the bullet. As a result, I will have to backtrack a little bit, as well as rewrite a chunk of the script (mostly changing a bunch of variable values, and a few words). Obviously, that also means I have to rerecord a bunch of stuff, but because my first day of recording had suboptimal audio, I was planning on doing that anyway - this is only adding a little more rerecording than originally planned.

The second one might be a bit of a bummer for you guys. I'm going to halt this video for a little while. An update to the OoT practice rom that will be coming out in the next few weeks will drastically improve my ability to create cool views and shots, so I'd be a fool not to use it. I would really hate to do 20 mins of the video, and then have to decide if I want to keep the production value the same for the rest, or improve it midway, or go back and redo half the video. So, I chose the easiest way: wait for the update and do it right the first time.

This means that the OoT videos will take even longer to come out. But! I already know which speedrun I'm going to cover in my next project. I can't say it just yet, though, because the speedrun itself is a secret. What I'm willing to say, though, is that it is a TAS currently in development, set to be released at the same time as my explanation video for it.

So, instead of waiting around for 3 weeks, I'm going to change my script, rerecord the bits I need, and immediately start working on the script for the next video until I can resume editing this one.

What does this mean for the release schedule?

It means no video will come out in December. However, since the script will be fully written and most likely already recorded for Part 2 of OoT wrong warp, and the next TAS explanation, 2 videos, and possibly 3 will come out in January. I know you guys supporting me don't expect me to be dropping 3 videos a month and your budget might not be tailored for it. So, if I were to release 3 videos in January, I would set my Patreon to charge only for two in January, and one in February, to soften the blow on your bank accounts. If new patrons come along in between, I'll figure out a solution for them.

Alright, so that concludes the update for this week. I hope you guys aren't too sad about having to wait a bit longer, but at least it means January will be an insane month for video releases!
