I bet that Gear 5 animation is expensive and that's why they were leaning on flashbacks

I adore the animation! but, it can make it a bit hard to see what's going on, so for clarification:
When Luffy "burns" Kaido what actually happens right before is: Kaido shoots a Boro Breath, but Luffy rips a big slab of the floor up to catch the attack, which stretches and slingshots it back at Kaido as if the floor is made of rubber. Kaido gets burnt by his own attack!

Also Zoan fruits having a will of their own works so well with how inanimate objects can eat devil fruits and then they somehow behave like animals even though they used to be inanimate, the will comes from the fruit, neat!
Makes you wonder how much of Chopper's personality came from his fruit and how much comes from the literal reindeer he used to be.

This is most likely one of those things that Oda planned from the beginning or at least very early, there's a lot of foreshadowing for it. Here are some examples if you're interested:
Chapter 1: The manga sound effect that Luffy makes when he grins is "nii" but at the end of last episode the sound effect for his grin was "nika". The first time Luffy grins with "nii" sound is almost immediately after eating the fruit in chapter 1, Luffy is talking to a shopkeeper and says something like "I'm so happy ever since I ate the Gum Gum fruit".
Extra thought on chapter 1: Shanks changed really quick from being like "wtf you ate the fruit we stole" to "now I'm going to give up my arm, (betting it on a new era) to inspire this kid to become a great pirate". Shanks stole the fruit from CP9 back then and already had conquerors haki, he could've saved Luffy without loosing an arm but he chose not to. (just my interpretation, it might be wrong).
On the Drums of Liberation: The sound effect for this in the manga is "doom-dut-dada doom-dut-da-da". In the first party scene with the sky wolves in Skypeia, and as well as in the arc's after party, the same beat is sounded, and in both scenes Oda draws Luffy's silhouette and focuses on it, the resemblance to his silhouette against the moon in this episode is striking. Oda even said in an interview a while back that the party scene in Skypeia was one of his favorite scenes that he ever drew. The same rhythm is also used for Bink's Sake "doom-dut-dada doom-dut-da-da" -> "yo-ho-hoho yo-ho-ho-ho".
On the Sun: One Piece has consistently had Sun symbolism and imagery since way back in Arlong Park, maybe earlier. In basically every single one of Luffy's fights, when Luffy wins, the sun comes out. The Sun Pirates (tieing the sun to themes of freedom and liberation from slavery), Thousand Sunny, the flags of many countries that we see (Alabasta, Skypeia) are sun symbols. "The Sun? or the Darkness? only one of us can win." - Blackbeard. And many many more.

The theory I've heard is that the awakening requires the user to reach a certain proficiency with their power (like gear 4) + getting strong enough with their haki and then dying to get the user's heartbeat to change and initiate the transformation. It's an interesting theory and sort of matches up with the Gorosei's concern of Luffy fighting the world's finest so I wouldn't be surprised if all of that was required.

its funny rewatching the conversation between Momo and Luffy when they first met in episode 611
Momo "and thus you see, I am human"
Luffy "ohh, its a devil fruit thing! so you're an eel man(I mean Luffy wasn't wrong momo/kaido are fish fish fruit after all lol) why don't you turn back into a human?"
Momo "I can turn back? into my human form? but how?
Luffy "Dont ask me, I'm not a zoan type wink wink" lol
luffy is the only paramecia that stays in his rubber form all the time also him and chopper (human human fruit) share the same drawbacks. when chopper ran out of his monster form he turned to chibi just like luffy in gear 3 and both of them Couldn't move after Enies Lobby

I really think Shanks knew what the fruit actually was, and knew that Garp took Rogers child which is why he was in the East Blue with it. He was trying to give Ace Joyboy's fruit but realized it was in good hands with Luffy.

This power encapsulates everything that is Luffy. His desires to be "the most free person on the sea" literally comes to life through his PEAK power. He has the freedom to do whatever he wants in battle. After this all ends you should definitely check out Oda's interview about Gear 5, it's great and provides a lot of insight :) I can't stop smiling over Looney Tunes Luffy :D

It's unclear what is meant by ridiculous, some people think it means it's strength, but other think they were referring to how cartoonish the Fruit's ability is

Peak, when they were saying his power is ridiculous iām sure they were stating how strong it was, id have to re read that chapter to see if it was translated like that.
