ughhhh

I feel ungrateful posting stuff like this but i'm just worried... I've been either losing subscribers for the past two months or gaining like one a day, which is unusual for a channel my size. Usually in "off" periods, when I'm making a video and haven't uploaded in a while, I gain about 50-100 subscribers a day, which again, for a channel my size, isn't that much in comparison to others... but that's what i've come to expect...

now again, i'm happy i get to do this at all, but this is also going to be my main source of income soon, and if i keep going at this pace, i won't be able to do that. its a huge privilege to get to do what you love as a source of income but i just can't help but feel sad when i check analytics every now and then and see that i've lost 500 subscribers in the last month, views have completely stagnated, and my adsense revenue is way down. and these "off" periods seem to be getting worse and worse.

this is not me asking for anything or any pity, but i just wanted to share how i feel... i've been putting so much work into this bloody thing for seven years and the highs have been great, people seem to be enjoying the content, and yet I seem to be losing subscribers?

There are basically only two ways youtube channels can be sustainable. Either you post alot of videos in a short amount of time and get moderate to pretty good engagement (at least like 1/2x-3/4x your sub count) on each video, OR you can post one video every once in a while, but hope it gets a good amount of views (1x-2x your subcount) that makes up for less uploading. i've been forced to structure my channel around the latter (due to school) and i've gotten mixed results... which is not exactly sustainable from a financial standpoint and that's why i'm worried for when I switch to full time.

do people not care as much about the theoretical "deep dive" stuff as much as I thought? were people just here for the lighthearted gay stuff? is there something i'm missing? I've tried to make all the theory as accessible, funny, and interesting as possible to keep it engaging, but where am i going wrong? is it the topics?

I guess we'll see how it goes with the next video... hopefully people care about the sims... thanks for reading if you did, and i appreciate your guy's support alot!!

I'm late to respond to this, so I'm not sure if this will be helpful at all, but from my end it's been personal life stuff that has put my usual interests such as watching YouTube videos on the backburner. Maybe the slight risk with longer videos is that people don't always have the time or energy to engage with them especially if they're juggling other things, and shorter content can be easier to consume in bursts. I'm behind on your videos because I enjoy giving them my full attention, so I think these videos are good for long-term growth since the topics may be interesting to people who stumble upon it way later, but current subscribers may not keep up from one video to the next. Then again this is all anecdotal and is really only my experience, which is very specific to the fact that I'm dealing with very serious life things and that's not everyone's experience. I'm just financially struggling and had to cut down on my pledge to make ends meet, but I still love your content just as much and think it's so unique and important. Wishing you continued luck and I hope I can come back and be a more active viewer soon, as things calm down on my end :')

Also I'm increasing my monthly pledge!
