Hesitations and ultimately i don't care lol
Added 2022-03-24 05:29:44 +0000 UTC... perhaps I deliver a take you disagree with. But it's good to disagree because it means you're thinking for yourself.

...it was difficult to edit and write this script because I kept feeling like I was saying something wrong, or wronging some community. But I'm just going to own it. I don't agree with the framing of either side of the TikTok discourse over Encanto nor do I hide behind a middle ground. But after watching so many TikTok videos of people talking about their positions, it feels like it's impossible to talk about anything without getting written off as racist or homophobic by someone. Even if we're literally all on the same page that racism and homophobia are bad, we still accuse each other of being racists and homophobes because of the (maybe sometimes flawed) interpretations we have of pieces of fictional media. we essentialize disagreements into the person we disagree with. If I have an opinion, and ever had an opinion about anything, then I'm forever defined by that opinion. So going against the whole discourse of "yeah, if you interpret Encanto as gay, you're white and also racist and also stereotyping" is hard to balance, especially when you agree with /some/ of "spirit" these critiques when they're articulated in the right way.
This is not a played-out diatribe against "cancel culture." This is just a frustration with the fact that I know whatever I say in this video is going to be interpreted in bad-faith. Or frighteningly, not even in bad faith, but from someone who genuinely believes I have bad intentions because I think queerness can exist in a diversity of ways.
I guess this is the difficulty of advocating for a position that is unarticulated...I might be over-thinking it... it is just a children's movie after all.
Lol... I guess I'll just own it.

Very interested to hear YOUR take. I've mostly avoided the discourse™️ and am not the biggest fan of Encanto(thus haven't interacted with the fandom much). I know the movie means a lot of things to a lot of people, but ultimately my stance on this topic I'm pretty lukewarm about is that fanon/headcanon doesn't detract from the source material and is *usually* harmless. Anyways, like I said I'm excited to hear your thoughts and consider what you have to say.

2022-03-25 06:19:34 +0000 UTCI look forward to seeing your take. I'm not entirely in the loop of the current state of the discourse, but I know the gist, and I know my stance. I've had multiple conversations about it with friends which helped me to solidify my own talking points, such as what fandom behaviors are inappropriate and in the wrong. That said, if you have a different stance-- just from what I know about you from your videos-- even without this post I would have known it wasn't coming from a place of bad faith or bad intentions.
