was working on my weird ass TikTok video but then I encountered some spicy gay encanto discourse and then I realized “hey I’m south American and queer why dont I settle This” and so now I’m gonna write a semi short script on encanto + post structural discourse analysis anyways…..

Yesss as a queer Colombian, I'm double invested in this, eating imaginary popcorn watching people tear each other apart on the internet lol The Colombian side of tiktok (in Spanish) was having a FIELD DAY on white gays' headcanoning anyone and everyone as queer and/or neurodivergent, while actively ignoring the actual plot of the movie -which is how trauma is passed down through generations of victims of violence and the big question of "how do we heal from that, TOGETHER". That is not to say there aren't Gays in Poor tm Countries (I, myself, am one) but it is VERY INTERESTING that it was almost exclusively white people from the First World who were queering Encanto, which itself doesn't have really that much queer subtext, or anything at all even. I mean, sure, there are characters one could interpret as queer (if one squints and tilts one's head) but by all means, it's no Luca or Barbie movie or BBC show. .. But also like, anyone can headcanon whatever they want like literally who cares. Just give Lin Manuel his Oscar and move on lol he deserves it idk... Really looking forward to your analysis !! :D
