Even in their first encounter Luffy was never shown to be that much slower than Kaido, he just couldn't do any damage to him and his Ryuou training along with training with sea prism stone cuffs on has alleviated that issue while giving him a bit of a power boost. Also it's not like Kaido is going all out. I think they are doing a good job of showing that Kaido is still solidly stronger than Luffy but Luffy is strong enough to at least entertain him for a bit.

2022-07-25 07:36:33 +0000 UTCAs far as who, I mean Luffy. He came to Wano not being able to scratch Kaido and now he can go toe-to-toe (in his base form) vs Kaido in his hybrid form. I skip around when I watch One Piece so I need to check the training but I just felt it was a huge leap.
