Ghost Of Yōtei - Onryō Engine (Review)

I reviewed Ghost Of Yōtei, probably the richest and tastiest "AAA" action game I've played in a very long time. A great revenge story with a toybox of a combat system, it's got some design issues but it's bloody grand.

I really enjoyed the game, I chewed through it and even went for all the trophies and I still wanted more. The expected character arc of "is my revenge really worth it" was good, but it really grated on me that by the end everyone is trying to convince Atsu to give up her revenge quest but at the same time she's basically the only thing preventing Saito's army from taking over all of Ezo? I felt that Tsushima had a much better arc in that regard where even after Jin resolves to not let his quest come at the expense of those around him he still understands that someone needs to stop Khotun Khan and that someone is him. I think it would have made the final arc a lot more poignant if Atsu decides to give up her quest for revenge but she can't because she needs to lead the charge against Saito.

Ghost of Yōtei sounds amazing! Tons of customization/build options, tons of challenging combat, beautiful scenery, classic story told well? Hell yeah! 😃 (Also agree that if they're going to put so many armors and charms and such in the game, allow something at least like Monster Hunter where players can have layered armor so they can have their fashion.)
