I'm the same, though I think the crucial difference is grinding versus forced grinding. Minecraft remains one of my favorite games after all these years, and it's because I can play that game however I want to when I sit down.

I will say one thing about "grinding": as a naturally anxious person I often relax by doing a very repetative activity, like playing pokemon. I will run up and down the same road leveling my lil guys. So sometimes, in some cases, people can really like backtracking. But I don't think that's the case for the people arguing with you online. Anyways, I haven't played DD2 and don't want to, so I can't speak to that game
