The Callisto Protocol - Sad Space (Review)
Added 2022-12-03 20:33:09 +0000 UTCI was really looking forward to The Callisto Protocol, even when reviews started to paint an unfavorable portrait. Not a single critique could have prepared me for how goddamn bad this horrible mockery of Dead Space is, however. Holy crap!

However, nobody can shake their head and lament "now, that really is some head shaking news" like Norm. 😉 That said, I DID find a link to the segment on NBC's website. 2022-12-04 01:18:12 +0000 UTCI broke my longstanding rule and pre-ordered the game for PC AND even got a collector's edition (PS5, which I don't own 🙄) just because I wanted to support the studio and do my part to show interest for more space survival horror games. I'm REALLY bummed out that they seem to have pulled a Cyberpunk on us. That's some headshakin' news, boyz & girlz. Real headshakin' news... (I THINK that's an old Norm Macdonald skit..."That's really some headshaking news...") 😉

2022-12-04 00:21:53 +0000 UTC...yeah, I was worried about this one ever since they started running the YouTube ads in which the only two pieces of dialogue showcased are among the biggest clichés in the history of the genre [to be updated when I get the ad again] but this is just really sad. You can't reasonably ask even the most talented people to come up with an idea for a core gameplay element quite as conceptually brilliant as the dismemberment system every time they make a new IP, nor to execute it so effectively. If, however, they're going to base their marketing so heavily on being the Dead Space people, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect them to at least try to come up with something to make the core gameplay truly distinct (the dodging system is unusual, I'll give them that, but it feels so thematically disconnected from the genre that it really doesn't qualify for me). EDIT: Those would be, "this place has a way of... [the sentence was so generic I've managed to forget the end in the 40 seconds or so it took me to navigate my way here]," and, "these aren't accidents; they're all connected somehow!" Yep, I feel like they live up to my billing pretty well.
