Don't Even JOKE About Easy Modes In Dark Souls! (The Jimquisition)

The terrible topic of easy modes in Dark Souls rears its vile head once more. It's not my fault, though! I've learned that the topic is so touchy, you can't even joke about it. Not without some ludicrous consequences.

It's high time for a certain Victorian aristocrat to make an appearance to read some of the "better" comments... 😉 ♪ If you like a lot of CUM on your biscuit! ♫ It's stuck in my head! And I love it! 😃 The song! Not cum. Well, maybe a little cum... 😉 😜

As a young kid I had the novel written by Clarke that was a companion to the movie. It was quite different from the movie and I read it over and over again. However, I never got around to reading the short story "The Sentinel" that was the germ of the idea. I don't know why. I think I'll rectify that... 😉

Also, like, it's founded on the notion that the current version of a game is somehow sacred and changing it disrespects the developers' intent, which is just nonsense. Devs update their own games all the time.

The fanbase is fucking exhausting. It's a big part of why I only play singleplayer and why I have extremely minimal involvement in any kind of gaming community. There's some really delicious irony about that 2001: A Space Odyssey quote. The famous Kubrick film was itself based on a much lesser known novel by Arthur C Clarke, and the film is inherently more accessible than the book. So clearly whoever said that should git gud and read the book.

I was, literally, playing Dark Souls when you posted this. (Specifically, I was rescuing Sif from the Chasm of the Abyss, which I like to do *before* I fight them in the Darkwood Garden, because I like to hurt myself.) My point is, I love this game, but for a long time I was put off of playing it because of its reputation for being super hard. The series' reputation for being "hArDcOrE" is keeping people away. An easy mode would allow more people to discover and enjoy the games we love. Also, fuck using the artistic vision of the creators as an argument against accessibility. If someone has paid real, human money for a thing, it's only fair that they get to enjoy the thing.

As much as I genuinely know you're right that I shouldn't get dragged into the discourse, it has just occurred to me that I've never seen, "artistic intent," given much consideration by the subset Git-Guddersâ„¢ who reviled Dark Souls 2, in no small part (as near as I can tell) for being difficult in ways with which they weren't good at coping. Suddenly, the difficulty was, "artificial," as if the code of the first Dark Souls was plucked off a magic tree in the grounds of FromSoftware's HQ. In their partial defence, they had plenty of other complaints but difficulty came up a whole bunch.
