I like to put wealth like this. At 1 million dollars, you can buy a home in some parts of New England. At 10 million dollars, you can buy a home anywhere in New England. At 40 million dollars, your family, your indirect family, and 3 generations will never have to work. At 100 million dollars, that increases to about 5 generations. At 1 billion dollars, no one in your family tree will ever have to work ever again forever. At 10 billion dollars, you own 25 homes all over the world and a private jet. More than that the GDP of small countries. 80% of all stock is owned by 20% of investors. The fact that we are allowed access to this and the ridiculously wealthy tell us to save, while true, is also misleading. If i invest 1000 dollars at 7% interest, I get 70$. If I invest 10 billion dollars at 7% I get 700 million. Remember, 700 million is more than enough money to ensure that your entire family will never have to work ever again, like the Carnegie's or Kenedy's. That is the wealth disparity we are talking about. It also means that we cannot afford roads and schools because we gave that money to families.

I have heard from informed sources that the human brain has difficulties working with large numbers, I can say this holds true for me. I struggle to grapple with the geologic time scale and I have a hard time figuring out what a $200M bonus is like. Is so far removed from the figures I usually handle on my daily life that I struggle to visualize it. 1/1000th of that is what in my income level would be considered 'a life changing amount'.
