I am a little surprised that you didn't mention the rank hypocrisy of Epic's argument. Sure you shouldn't have to "buy" apps for Apple products from only one store front. And we shouldn't have to "buy" flair for fortnight from only one store front. And call me crazy, but maybe we should actually be able to buy this stuff, and then sell it.

We reached a point where billionares are sueing trillionares. To put into perspective 1 trillion dollars, think of the entire GDP of eastern Europe and Central Asia. A billion dollars is still an unbelievable amount of money but like, the GDP of say, Alabama.

I think jim was honest with saying how devs can benefit from the deal. But, but, epic is building it's own monopoly. Epic is not doing this for you, epic is trying to line its own pockets. They want to be apple. I don't blame your dev team for taking a deal with epic. No money tastes worse than starving, principles have 0 nutritional value. Know though that they are using you. The ramifications of this deal are going to be very sketchy at best, and until the suit is over, we should be very leery about what they are. If epic gets more money, they will buy more monopoly space. If apple gets more money, they will buy more monopoly space. If both go bankrupt tomorrow, people will lose their purchases and others will lose jobs. The real hero's in this battle are the small groups who are already in the middle of lawsuits trying to sue Apple into making repairs possible and allowing for software freedom. Epic is getting In the middle of a years long fight against apple.

I get why apple went after unreal. During a lawsuit, it's up to both companies to distance themselves from one another. Epic knew this. Epic, in filing the lawsuit knew that Apple would have to end deals with unreal.

I find the description of Epic using Fortnite to "See what it can get away with" pretty blind to just how calculated this has all been to make a strike at the overreach that these big tech companies have in terms of market control. Downplaying the magnitude of what this action might accomplish; "...some positive at the end of it all, weather that is your discounted V-Bucks, or...mm...whatever" is SUCH a disingenuous characterization of the importance of what's going on here. That "whatever" equates to getting more money into the pockets of ALL devs, EVERYWHERE that publish on IOS and Google platforms. This is exactly the same stance Epic took when creating the Epic store, getting more money to the people that ACTUALLY make games, whose livelihoods DEPEND on it. Just as he did for the Epic Store, Jim would rather focus on how "anti-consumer" it is, like..that REALLY matters? Talk about a 1st world problem. These aren't 2 pharmaceutical companies whose argument denies proper medication from getting to the people that need it. This is about people that MAKE GAMES getting more money for what THEY made. These "anti-consumer" philosophies are the only things I've seen that are ACTUALLY harming the game devs. People like the team that made Ooblets are decried because they DARE to make an exclusivity deal that guarantees a certain amount of future security that's generally unheard of in indie game development, as well as more runway to make the game properly. That isn't to say that Epic are saints; crunch time is a real problem, the questionable PR surrounding this whole lawsuit thing...eh it's a legitimate thing to have an opinion/discussion about. But the whole "Corporate BAAAD" point of view, especially without actually digging deeper into what the MEANINGFUL ramifications could be is just...lazy and manipulative. Full disclosure, I'm an Indie Dev on a 5-man team that's benefited VERY much from the Epic exclusivity deal. I don't actually know any game devs that don't think what Epic has been doing has been anything but a step in the right direction when it comes to getting a more fair market. Obviously that's anecdotal, so take it with a grain of salt.

Apple had effectively been handed this victory on a plate... until they made the completely nonsensical move of going after the whole unreal development environment's access to the apple ecosystem. That wasn't in any way related to the fortnight store violation, and actively would harm the wider developer ecosystem. So at this point I'm not sure if they would come out totally clean. I'm not backing any side here, but I hope whoever wins comes out with a Pyrrhic victory.

Huh, I didn't notice before but Jim doesn't come up no matter how regularly I watch you. HOW CONVENIENT Youtube killed email notifications because people not clicking Every Single One every creator makes is a waste of resourcs and mean to their viewers' inboxes. So yeah it's basically impossible to find Jim's videos without Patreon or searching for it.

It's the old situation all over again.... the only winning move is not to play. Not being invested in these games and these platforms means I'm pretty safe from the blast. Oh and you said that Epic was playing a long game.... I think long CON would be a little more accurate, because they are definitely breaking laws here.
