The Most Influential Game Of The Decade (The Jimquisition)

Before we force ourselves to face the reality that is 2020, I want to take one last look over the previous decade. More than that, I want to think about what influence means.

Today's video column isn't a comprehensive retrospective so much as a thought process, going over some of the biggest names in the past decade of games and seeing what impact, if any, they had on the industry.

All that considered, I do come to a conclusion and I do name the game I believe had the most influence in the 2010s. Is it The Witcher 3? Fortnite? Dark Souls?

It... sure is something.

I didn't have much fun watching it, I guess it just didn't work for me. I 100% agree that the general backlash is way nitpicky and harsh.

Like... you don't talking steaming and Esports without League

Got to wonder how League of Legends didn't make the cut

I am SO thankful you made a point of 'influence' being a multidirectional factor! Excellent work, and it's something to think about....

I love you Jim, but I’m disappointed that you’ve continued to ignore Respawn’s recent transgressions due to your unabashed love for them. You’ve had plenty of opportunities to address it, even in this video alone, and your silence is starting to look like hypocrisy. I’m going to take your advice and vote with my wallet and pull my sub here for a while. I’m still a fan though and may sub again in the future. Thanks for the good times so far and good luck.

God I'd love to see more developers go the Shovel Knight path. What an incredible bunch of stories and so much content for almost a literal steal. Seen similar with Hollow Knight and Dead Cells providing huge content updates for free.

Had me laughing that you forgot about Minecraft. But, your analysis and picks for most influential games of the decade are spot on, sad as that is. Thanks for another brilliant episode. 😃

I'd say Minecraft was more of an influence on the design of games, where your pick was more about the corporate direction. There feels like an under-representation for independent studios here outside of the Soulslike and Undertale. I'm not saying there should have been more indy games mentioned, but how the industry had effected those developments. Also wanna give a shout out for Shovel Knight because that game has grown in the last 6 years in content. It should be an example for other games down the line. Not the most influential, but possibly the most ethical content-wise?

I tell you, Jim would rock PR. CCCODCOC is so good it's unreal.

Wow wrong. Ok, cool. I can buy that.

Definitely Fortnight.

Rise of the Skywalker is a good film, sorry couldn't resist(no but seriously it is IMO, the hate its getting is WAY overblown).

Skyrim was my guess on this one. I would put forth either Borderlands for the looter shooter craze, or Destiny for the live service bs

I haven't started watching yet either, but I'm kinda hoping that Skyirm in on the list. Not because it's a good game, but because the modding community just had a field day with it. Kinda just the theme with any Bethesda game, I guess. A meh or garbage game turned alright thanks to the modding community. But I guess I'll see later.

I've not started watching yet, but I'm calling Grand Theft Auto - it made obscene amounts of money, reneged on loads of promises, bullshit monetization and working practices and it got away with it.
