Blaming Games For Mass Shootings Is A Disgusting Distraction (The Jimquisition)

In the wake of multiple mass shootings over a single weekend, politicians with vested interests in shifting the blame pulled their easiest, laziest trick - they blamed videogames.

Donald Trump accused games of glorifying violence in a way that encourages domestic terrorists to go out and commit mass murder. The game industry was rightly offended.

But it's all stupid nonsense, and it's designed to be stupid nonsense. The more we argue in circles about videogames, the less we talk about guns, or white nationalism, or whatever else might actually be causing the uniquely American problem of widespread mass murder.

Automatic weaponry is far too easy to get. The fact any racist moron with a hankering for mass murder seems to be able to get one suggests they’re too easy to get hands on. <<<< Jim, for the love of logic and reason Get your fuckin facts straight

Great work jim

Chris

Nah, they'd just argue that they need more guns. They would use it as a justification for more insanity.

Earlier in the week Donald Trump said during a press conference said "hate has no place in America" and "in one voice our nation should condemn racism, bigotry and white supremacy". Can he afford to alienate three of his core voter demographics like that? But in all seriousness I honestly don't think NRA members care about mass shootings. It's a price gun owners in America are apparently all too willing to pay if it means "protectin' their 'murican freedum, yup". They'll gladly abandon personal responsibility, morality, even basic human values so long as they have the right to bear arms. Whats a few innocent victims to them, when their god-given right to compensate for their inadequacy with a machine designed specifically to kill people is at stake them from "dem liburuls, yup".

I bet if 22 republican elected officials were shot in a 12 hour span suddenly the NRA would be disbanded. But because it's just civilians, who cares right? Blame grilled cheese sandwiches, they dun it!

It's going to go away again, this outrage. We don't stay angry when it's movie-goers getting killed, or mall-shoppers, or children. We get angry, and then there's something else to get angry about. We live in a 24-7 feed of distraction and outrage. While this outrage is still on your mind, if you live in the U.S., e-mail your Senators or Representatives. And if you can maintain the focus, do it again in a few days or a week. The web sites for finding the addresses are senate.gov and house.gov (assuming Patreon doesn't censor that). Tell them you hold them, personally, accountable.

Sometimes I disagree with you slightly but I can't say I disagree with anything you said here. Everything you said was very well said and unfortunately I don't think you're wrong in regards to nothing ever being done. When my dad told me the news, the first thing I said was that some shitty vocal minority is going to shout that if everyone had a gun there wouldn't be a problem. His reply was that they're probably just going to have "thoughts and prayers" without actually changing anything. I'm sure Trump even said he wanted to ban video games and the Internet before he was actually elected.

Been watching you a long time Jim, but this is the episode that pushed me to join patreon to support you. Sorry I hadn't done it sooner, but this Jimquisition was spot on.

A double Jimquisition! Except the topic of this one is so sad i actually regret it had to be done. Talk about the definition of Divide and Conquer.... make people argue fantasy while reality happens around them

Alicejack Airheart

I wasn't expecting the direction this took, but I'm glad you took it. Fine work.

I see so many 'trending' topics about defending video games and I'm in total agreement that its purely a distraction. How stupid do people have to be to believe that video games and not ACTUAL GUNS are the problem? Thanks for making this point, Jim.

ProCode

The amount of mass shootings we've had say otherwise.

Jason Youngberg

Goddamit Jim, automatic weaponry is NOT easy to get. Every other point you made is spot-on.

This was some of your best work mate. Why we support you. Well done for seeing the bate and switch..the distraction from gambling and doxing. Thank God for you and well done with rocket league...what a nice surprise!
