EA Doesn't Like Being Seen As The Bad Guy? Too Bad! (The Jimquisition)

A recent article shared the woes and tragedies of Electric Arts' great struggle - the "perception" that the company is a villain.

The problem is, it's not so much a perception as it is a matter of historical record.

While media articles publish unquestioning propaganda from EA's executives, we juxtapose the one good thing it does - EA Originals - against the negative impact of its less savory behavior.

Funnily enough, the scales don't even out on this one.

I hate their practices but they can absolutely do it. We cede moral authority to allow kids to gamble. Some brilliant person thought, kids are compulsive. Maybe we should present with them compulsive gambling and perhaps addict them to our product. That seems like a logical and excellent way to make money. Congress can't even agree that allowing kids to gamble is a bad thing. So you get EA. Honestly though, this is a serious question. It was entirely illegal for kids to purchase anything. What safeguards are companies doing to prevent absolutely entirely illegal game purchases? If a random 10 year old figured out how to get the flashy lights to appear with their favorite sports person you can be absolutely certain everyone else has too.

I am certain that EA fully understands why people call them bad guys. They just don't want to admit it in public.

EA: "I struggle with the perception that we're just a bunch of bad guys." Rest of us: "We struggle with the reality that you're just a bunch of bad guys, and all the fallout that inflicts on the industry. Wanna trade?"

Just a note on the closed studios segment, google "slightly mad studios ea" if you have a spare minute or two. "Fun" story about EA's modus operandi from a studio who lived to tell the tale. (Disclaimer: I work for SMS.)

The Surprise Mechanic should've stolen the sparkplugs and offered to sell them back for premium CarBucks.

Good video though I will definitely defend FUSE on my deathbed, I thought that game as it was was still pretty good, honestly I had no clue it originally started as Overstrike until after I had played it so I judged the game on it's own merits instead of what I wanted it to be or what I thought it should've been.

These corporate apologists act like they're pushing back against extreme overreactions to EA's behavior, but they're really defending all those greedy practices and attempting to silence criticism.

If you don't like being the bad guy, maybe stop being the bad guy, huh? People call them 'soulless megacorporations' for a reason.

IGN: If the focus of your hate is working conditions at EA, I want to gently suggest you also consider clothing factories in southeast Asia or diamond mines in southern Africa, or fast food outlets in the mid-west. If the focus of your whining self-pity is the angry reaction of the public, I want to not so gently suggest you consider the French Revolution or the assassination of the Czar's family in Russia. That's how logic works, right?
