How Apex Legends Saved EA’s Ass… In Spite Of EA

I'm getting back into long-form writing after a long time away, at least while my headspace is open to the idea. I decided to write in detail about Apex Legends' success and how it rescued EA, something we discussed on this week's Jimquisition but didn't do a deep dive for.

Hope you enjoy!

The page got moved and the link is no longer valid. Might be worth updating with the proper link!

Thanks, nice to see articles again. I think it’s worth mentioning that money did flow into streamers , which apparently got to play a bit earlier and then all of them went full steam in twitch promoting the game as „apex partners“ , such kind of hype does help people wanting to be part of. Luckily the product does live up to the hype, so that helped. Just pointing out that some marketing was used, not upfront and probably not with such big numbers as a full campaign but nowadays, investing in streamers and yotubers helps the hype.

EA succeeds by doing none of the EA things to a project. They kept their collective gobs shut and let a game happen. EA's shareholders should see this as evidence of where the weak link lies.

As much as I love your video content, I have a special fondness for anyone still doing long-form writing in the Era of the Algorithm. I hope these become a regular thing again.

Nicole Barovic

Excellent! I've always enjoyed your written content.

Quite a telling lesson indeed. If only EA learned it before eating Visceral Games. :( Great piece all the same Jim. :)

Love long form writing, thanks for this! :D

Ideally I want to do them more regularly, it's just up to my brain how often I can do it.

That’s a good read! Do you think you’ll add editorials as a regular feature, or do them when you’re feeling particularly fired up?

Thank you. I hope I maintain this enthusiasm to keep 'em going.

Jim Sterling

Thank you. Might be because I wrote it immediately after posting yesterday's video. I've been very fired up lately!

Jim Sterling

Yes! YESS!! I've missed your essays so much!

Twit In A Hat

Great editorial! It was like reading a Jimquisition episode, except it's not Monday.
