I also quite liked Andromeda. I think maybe they threw out too much of their established universe, but other than that, the characters and story and even world were MUCH better than the first Mass Effect. And that's really what you need to compare it to, a first entry where you don't know anyone yet. Of course you're not as invested in the characters as ME2 or ME3, where you've spent a lot of time with them already. Not that I was particularly impressed, but I had fun with it and the hate seemed overblown....which is par fo the course I guess. Absolutely not invested in Anthem either though.
