AAAdvertising (The Jimquisition)

Capcom has decided to embarrass Street Fighter V with ads, or "sponsored content" as they're calling it.

Today, let's talk about that, give a brief history of product placement and ads in games, before having a bit of a whinge about the potential future of ad-support videogame garbage.

I think you're sadly right. I think some AAA publisher will put some timed ads in their premium game within the next two years. And gosh do I hope it blows right up in their face and that publisher collapses under the failure. One can hope. :) Solid video again Jim. :)

Love you, Jim.

Whatever happened to merchandising? Blanka the coloring book, Guile the lunch box, Dhalsim the flame thrower! (The kids love this one.) Last but not least, Dee Jay the doll. "May the beats be with you!"

The web became ridden with ads. Then came the rise of the ad blocker. Games become ridden with ads? Welcome the ad blocker mods. Just hope that blocking ads is never made illegal.

Nice!)

Its really nice of you to take in craig the intern since the disbandment of fistshark marketing. I certainly would have left him to rot.

Very good one again! though I cannot not remark how on your listing of censorship happening for various reasons towards the end of the video, did not include stuff related to nudity/sexuality. I mean at the end it doesnt matter what is censored why, but still remarkable from my pov considering the current culture. :)

In Craig's defense, He-Man was made to sell toys so I cannot blame him for comparing it to The Inhumaniods in that regard.

Sometimes I forget that since the beginning of video games being commercial products, business executives always saw them as money-making products without seeing any artistic merit to them. It is why we have the industry being disinterested in preservation, uptight with its IPs, and more I cannot think of right now. Video games were a lucrative industry at the start and is even a more lucrative industry now.

Casts the "free" week of Street Fighter V being offered on Steam right now in a pretty dubious light...

Kraken

Yep. Business executives do not give a darn about the artistic medium of video games. I'm pretty sure they have never played a game in their lives outside of maybe arcades.

Does Jim sterling of your weekly show work with the same Craig as the fist shark media Jim. Fist shark Jim is down right evil to his Craig while our Jim is just kind of a dick to his craig

It just gets worse when you remember Dhalsim's skulls were deceased children from his village.
