Asking Sterling (A Patreodcast) #4

Time for more questions that I answered! You asked, I answered them. That's how it works.

Interesting to hear you talk about "Silent Hill 4", Jim. I agree: It's definitely flawed, but it's also really intriguing, and perfectly captures that sense of dread that the early SH games got so right. And I appreciated that they were trying to do something new. In many regards, it feels far more like a "real" Silent Hill game than, say, Homecoming.

I apologize for writing you an entire Dalrymplian essay Jim, I'll try to avoid that in the future, or at least indicate where you can stop reading my rambling... ;p Thanks for answering my question regardless. I honestly wasn't going for a "classism" vibe with my horror game setting, although given how classist sensibilities are endemic (almost innate) character trait of the English I still can't help feeling that it might make a compelling, though admittedly challenging, theme for horror. Subjective perception of a place you're visiting or actually live in is arguably more important than what constitutes an actual town, or who happens to lives there. When I was younger I had something a reactive negativity about living in Tamworth. Nothing in the local culture or overt palpable whiteness of the place spoke to me, I felt like I didn't belong. Eventually through maturation my pessimism was replaced with mild regional pride and a quiet acceptance of the local character of the town, it definitely isn't a bad place to grow up.

<i>"ORTHONOOOOOOOX!"</i> I'm sorry, I couldn't resist... :3

I was delighted to be called a cheeky bastard for my question. Because of that and I liking your content, I'll support you on Patreon just so I can keep asking questions. I never did it before because I always felt that donating you $1/per month is not adequate because you are worth more than that but I'll let go of that for now.<br><br>That said, I do genuinely appreciate you answering my question. I know that YouTube being YouTube right now prevents you from branching out from the meats and potatoes of your channel but I want to say that I do enjoy your 'Evergreen' Jimquisitions because they are the type of Jimquisitions that I could always go back and unpack more of and still feel relevant. I shall await the day when you compare Dark Souls to depression.

Tune in next time, when "Where's the chungus?" is a meme.

Jim, some of my favorite moments with you are just the chats. Thanks for doing these. I would LOVE to see you do deep dives and pick-aparts on exemplary games like CineFix does with films.

The Irony Giant

A <em>flamboyant</em> Randy Pitchford would totally have been Jim Sterling's nemesis a few years ago.

If looking for a name for your ask-a series, Sterling 's Pearls can be taken all too many ways and would work. Although pearls may imply advice too much. ๐Ÿ˜

Thanks for answering my question Jim. Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions kinda helps understand the person who voices our inability to have a voice in the games industry.

Hey Jim, thanks for answering my question. No doubt whatever you decide to do at the end of next year to look back at the decade you will have no shortage of material, and yep the older you get the more time flies I feel ya :)

Chapo is a left-wing political podcast which has been around the center of the progressive Internet world since before the 2016 election. The show has an ironic, absurd sense of humor similar to your own. There's a pretty good chance you'd like it.

Cheers for answering my penis tie question haha, was fun to have it printed for ya and it made my day when you used it in a Jimquisition ep. Hopefully you also received some 'Round The Twist magnets a lil while later too.
