From Battle Pass To Battle Ass (The Jimquisition)

The Battle Pass is the new hotness in monetization thanks to Fortnite's popularization of it.

Before "AAA" publishers can sink their fangs into the latest scheme, games like PUBG and Paladins have shown them how to do it.

I keep hearing that Disney is going to strip EA of the Star Wars license because of their shenanigans doing harm to the brand, but thus far it seems to remain in the realm of wishful thinking.

So...insult then compliment, interesting strategy

Hey Jim your demenor in this video really is offputting. Like early days of Destructoid it made the intro and outro a slog to get to the good stuff. Thank you for your good work btw. You are the best investment on Patreon.

Unrelated to this, but just curious if there is a shirt with "Thank God for Me" on it? I was looking through the shirts and couldn't spot one, but i swore i saw someone wearing one a while ago (In the style of the "Corporate Takeover" poster)

I feel like EVERY day Paladins' devs/publisher woke up and weren't being sued by Activision Blizzard, they just got bolder and bolder, deciding that they were beyond consequences. And good to see that PUBG continues to display that you don't need to be one of the big boys to NEVER EVER HAVE ENOUGH MONEY.

Off topic but, it's really odd playing FF IX for the first time after watching Jim for a few years. Walking through the castle, and thinking, "Who's watching a jim sterling video?" "Oh wait, that's the game music?" It's weird man.

Seriously. If they'd have done their microtransactions sensibly and decently, I would have had no qualms throwing a good whack of money at 'em.

Cripes, Paladins. You add your K-mart Overwatch to Switch with a single buy-in price for all characters and I'm thinking "Okay, I'll pay a little money for a portable shooter experience that's just right for Potty Time Gaming." Then you can't stop yourself from heaping greedy, fun-killing user experiences atop greedy, fun-preventing microtransactions for your fully paid customers? STOP MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO TOLERATE YOU.
