Not Responsible (The Jimquisition)

It's strange to me that previously accepted criticism can retroactively become censorship the moment something comes along that's deliberately tacky and edgy. Almost as if, to some people, free speech is really only about having the freedom to be a dick.

Anyway, since Valve and YouTube can jettison responsibility for their platforms, so can I.

Thanks for one of the best episodes in the Jimquisition, which already has so many great episodes.

Another great video Jim. Btw I really like the vest can I ask where you got it?

I have a request for <i>The Jimquisition</i> going forward, regarding articles mentioned/shown in the video: could you please provide links for any articles you show in the background, even if you don't explicitly reference them in your commentary? There have been several Jimquisitions now where I've gone off to do a web search for the article headline in hopes of finding it because I was interested to see what it said on the topic at hand. Thank Jim for Jim!!

A-fucking-men... <em>son</em>.

How do you block content on Steam, exactly?

Crissa Kentavr

Of course, they don't have any tools for sorting through the dreck, either. By allowing 'anything' they're pushing out marginalized speech.

You did a satire!! Love it!!

Edge cases are great for satire, but they tend to obscure the subtleties. Steam, Youtube, Google and even Patreon all hold virtual monopolies in their respective fields. If someone within them decides your work has crossed a line, it's more or less banished from public perception (or in the case of Youtube and Patreon, at least, you can no longer make a living making it, regardless of how many people might want you to continue doing so.) They're all public companies and have both the right and the responsibility to [boilerplate]... But it cannot and should not be casually dismissed that "free speech" issues have gotten more complicated now that a number of for-profit companies have effectively BECOME "the public square". And if that's troublesome now, wait and see if ISPs actually start exploiting the lapse of Internet Neutrality. This is the other side of "they're profiting from [x], therefore they're inherently condoning it"; if they don't allow [x], [x] has nowhere else to go. And you might be fine with that when [x] is materials you feel are harmful or bigotry, but the definitions of "harmful" and "bigotry" have changed radically in the last thirty years, and I'm not naive enough to feel that we've now reached a state of enlightenment and those ideas are going to freeze where the current crop of 15-to-45-year-olds are comfortable. I'm still hoping some sort of middle ground can be reached, but again, edge cases don't provide the best environment for such considerations. And I'm not calling for censorship, just offering a critique.

The FDA is communist! Am I doing this right?

I hear your concerns.

I just hope that with a few more videos like this Jim gets it out of his system, and does not drone on about this week in week out indefinitely. Like with Greenlight, oh God no this is Greenlight all over again isn't it. (to be clear I am definitely in camp Valve on this one, how could you have found clips of the Flintstones smoking if Youtube/ Comcast/ whoever you want to blame for you being able to find that clip had done their 'curating' job)

I feel like this crusade is deep into SJW shit, I can no longer endorse this. Love you forever though Jim. This attitude is strongly anti-consumer as well. Guess even the powerful Jim had to become part of the typical game journalism trash. Now I have no more faith in it at all without Jim.

Pretty much this (yes even the OP surrealistic sarcasm could be forged into something worth while), content should only be blocked by the user, the only thing in play IE mandatory by the vender is mandatory category tags IE Religious, Hate speech, Gay, Straight, Lez, Mild Violence ,Cartoon Violence, Gore Violence, ect. These tags the user and uploaded cannot change and the vendor works at keeping these tags on the correct post or content. That way users can block out what they want. Frankly a PG or G rating setup a .kid level of internet kinda like .mobile to block out any agitative content so kids and plebs can lock out anything that may harm them…

Holy crap it's Jonathan Holmes, that's neet.

I feel like Rory Fingers may have had a hand in the opening few minutes.....

Only a grand to be on the sexiest show about vidya gamez? Bargain.
