Of Course There's A Game With A Mass School Shooting In It On Steam (The Jimquisition)

Of course. Why wouldn't there be? Ooookay, let's explain to people why rallying around this particularly absurd little product is a bad idea...

Have fun spending actual money on a game that looks like it's maaaaaaaybe one step above the broken asset flips that Jim so often highlights on his channel then, guys. Way to stick it to the libs.

Community rating is a thing that is real and SCOTUS approved, though. Making a single national rule or rating system may or may not have chilling consequences... But as we’re seeing with SESTA, taking away the safe harbor is destroying bulletin boards across the net.

I will point out that Senator Hillary Clinton was the sponsor of the failed "Family Entertainment Protection Act" in 2005, and Senator Leland "I don't see a contradiction between condemning video game violence and running guns" Yee was a loud advocate for video game censorship pretty much right up until he was suspended for his crimes; it isn't *just* the right that's on about censoring the medium. Video games are always going to be a cheap and convenient target to score political points, up until we finally get elected representatives who actually play modern video games and/or video game publishers reach the required quota of lobbyists, political contributions, and paid "research trips". Right now, it's helping provide the cover for continuing to stall on actual gun control. "Pick your battles" is a not-unreasonable point of view, one a lot of social media vigilantes could stand to take to heart. I certainly don't feel a huge need to stand between this game and the mob it's pretending not to have provoked, other than a pang for all the times said mob has gone after games on over-baked or entirely inaccurate ideas about their content. But at the same time, old song: If not for the kerfuffle, a crappy game probably would have been largely overlooked, and I can't help but wonder if even staring too long ends up being to the benefit of those who are engaging in something a lot like trolling.

How is it not taking responsibility by putting action through our democratic representatives?

So... I was at Virginia Tech during the shooting. I, myself, was never in harms way, so I can't speak to that part of the experience. I can only talk about being part of the community struggling to understand and cope. There were many good people who reached out the the Tech community and helped in the aftermath, but there was a lot of bullshit too. I have a grudge against every major American news outlet, all of them, because of the way many of the reporters acted and because of how long it took them to just go away and let people heal. Long story short: Jim, thank you. Less needs to be said about shootings in terms of politics. More needs to be said about people taking responsibility for their actions.

Excellent episode, thank god for Jim!

Unless something harsh (i.e. beyond just people/press complaining) happens to steam, I doubt steam is ever going to clean their store (or their business model) up. The phrase "too big to fails" comes to mind at this point. There are other storefronts, but the ones that I immediately think of can't come close to competing with steam: Itch is too focused at indie, Humble is just a key reseller and Gog has a market against DRM so I imagine many publishers will probably ignore that. and brick-and-mortar stores is just a no-go.

Something about watching the gameplay footage of students and civilians getting shot down made me feel ill. I know the games aren't well made and the graphics are shit but it still bothered me a lot to watch. I think it's the part of me that tries to become immersed in any video game I see/ play. I believe in the right to say, express, or create whatever art you want but when people like this make shit games with no real effort or imagination then they should expect nothing but the blow back they get from critics. This right of expression should be handled with more maturity. Also I've always wondered why calling someone a Warrior for Justice in Society is suppose to be an insult.

Faith and Valor have a good month creators. Love all that you do.

That dev and publisher are so tone deaf. I understand the desire to create something for shock value (and I despise it) but these people clearly have no concept of long-reaching effects. Another example that politicians can use of the video game industry being unable to regulate itself. I do not want to see the government get involved in this industry any more than it already is. We've all seen how the government handles the Internet.

Some businesses will always pick short-term gain over long-term survival because those making the decisions won't have to deal with the consequences. It's always the rest of us who have to deal with the fallout.

Thank God for you Jim!
