Ubification (The Jimquisition)

Is Far Cry 5 good? I think so. The problem with Ubisoft games is you can't tell anymore, they're all the same.
It's understandable when a sequel iterates on its predecessor, but Ubisoft is one publisher with MANY franchises all building off each other.
It's making it hard to care, or at the very least view these games as anything other than fluff.
I found The Ubisoft Sandbox boring from the get go. I played the Assassin's Creed 1 director's cut came out on GOG because a friend was telling me how great the series was (I think this was when they were up to 3 or 4), and the repetition killed it for me before I got half way through.
How does their series do so well??

Jim, you claim that if you were a newcomer to this series this game might seem like one of the best ever, but AS a newcomer to it, because this is my first Far Cry game ever, I can tell you that there's things that irritate the shit out of me that may not bother a veteran.
For example...
The weapon wheel took a simple concept and made it confusing as hell in this game. What? You want a rifle assigned to slot 2? OK we'll put that blowtorch in slot 1. What? You want a handgun in slot 1? OK we'll put that blowtorch in slot 2 now. In either situation the dumb blowtorch either needs its own slot or to unassign when i pick a different weapon.
The way you're firing with different buttons whether or not you're in a car is confusing as fuck. They were so desperate to have the drive button the same as the shoot button walking? Really? Just assign gas to x, jesus christ.
Not being able to skip between day/night is a pain in the butt. For example, I'm hunting alien parts right now and nope, cant get them all until the game just happens to turn nightfall again.
Even on easy this game is pretty merciless to anyone new. I feel like I just try and stand around and suddenly I'm getting attacked from all directions. It gets old fast when the action is this constant with no breaks.
This next problem is likely unique to this game, and its having to listen to the never ending religious rhetoric that wouldn't be so bad if sometimes these guys would just leave you the fuck alone. More specifically having to listen to the crap blaring on speakers every time you get near camp. Like the constant action, it gets old quick.

Maybe it's good I haven't played a Ubisoft open world game since Assasin's Creed 2 and then Syndicate without playing any others, Far Cry or otherwise, then? Like different flavors of ice cream, basically?

I've pretty much stopped playing most big Ubisoft games. I haven't played Assassin's Creed since 3 and Far Cry since 3 also. I never bought Watch Dogs 2. I did play the South Park games though.

So...Ubisoft is assetflipping its own game? We need a word for that besides assholes.

That's why I stopped playing AC after Revelations. After 3 in a row I was burned out on playing the exact same game. Really like Far Cry 3, but 4, Primal, and 5 look like the exact same game.

Pretty much yeah. My thoughts when I hear that quote are always "No that's called fucking practice" and "why does everyone take this fucking quote out of context AAAAHHH" in no particular order.

This concept applies to mainstream media like TV and film as well. The structure is there and not necessarily bad but there's not creativity. It just reinforces our fear of change and desire for things to stay the same. However the next game to come around and change it up will get all the press. For me that is currently Nier Automata.
Faith and Valor have a good month creators. Love all that you do.

In a risk-averse marketplace I can half excuse throwing all the best ideas in a stew. My problem with modern Ubisoft is they stopped making smaller side projects to test the waters with new ideas to begin with. Remember Child of Light? Valiant Hearts? None of that now unless you include Mario x Rabbids, which is mostly Nintendo's doing.

open world game publishers and Bethesda has sadly challenged them....

If insanity is repetition then going to work or school, going out after and going back to work or school the next day for years is high insanity.

Ubisoft is the fast food restaurant of game publishers.
The same thing over and over with minor variations, peppered with some limited specials and some dishes are served with bugs and if you are unlucky a dead rat.
