Violence In Videogames, Wankers In The White House (The Jimquisition)

Violence in videogames, a classic political scapegoat of the 1990s and early 2000s, is back in the spotlight as Trump's bewildered administration resurrects an old blame game.

And a game is what it is. A rigged circus game designed only to entertain and placate the masses. The "violence in videogames" debate is a vapid waste of time, and the time wasters know it.

Hey Jim you might want to label this video - I wasnt expecting to see see someone murdered in cold blood graphicly in front of me. It was a bit traumatic.

If there were to be a short-list of practical, effective steps to reduce gun-violence in the States, it might include: a) Doubling the budget of the ATF, if not a bigger increase. The NRA constantly talks about the need for enforcement of current law and then fights tooth and nail to keep the ATF under-funded. b) Task the CDC to keep up to date, detailed statistics on gun-violence and gun related injuries. This helps develop policy based on fact, not opinion. c) Pass legislation towards standardizing gun-laws based on best practices, based on collected data. It probably isn't practical to eliminate State laws in favor of a single national standard, but any loopholes that can be closed would be a step in the right direction, especially if coupled with adequate enforcement. Please note: nowhere on the list is: "make a disingenuous fuss about video games."

You are preaching to the choir, mate... And as a sidenote, Jim is British... ;)

It can be argued that if we had a better mental healthcare system, or you know, a mental healthcare system at all, alongside background checks then we wouldn't have the amount of mass shootings we face now. While I find it a bit ridiculous that private citizens can own automatic weapons and anything bigger than a handgun, I'd like to point out that restricting gun control would just create another black market and higher crime rates. As seen with the ineffectual "war on drugs."

I don't live in the US but I've seen people blaming the US's shitty criminal justice system and an inadequete mental health system also as behind the gun massacres...as if they're separate from the guns and mass murder. I'm just a bit baffled that no one seems to think more gun regulation might just help ease those issues just a tad.

I find it ridiculous to point to violent video-games as being the root cause or offer significant contribution to gun violence in your country, Jim. There are too many countries with the same violent video games without the same frequency of mass shootings. It's too easy to point to video games or even guns as being the primary source for them. In my experience as a white-male anglo-saxon Canadian (not the most well-rounded experience admittedly), the intense need for guns is just not a thing up here. While gun violence does exist and mass-shootings have happened, it doesn't feel out of control as it does in the States. I've never felt the need to purchase a gun and many people I've met with have been uncomfortable around those that do own one, often questioning why. I feel that the States need too take a hard look at yourselves holistically and try , as your president put it, "figure out what the hell's going on here". In the mean time, significantly regulating the access to weapons that can kill 30 people in a few seconds would be a good place to start. Also, speaking frankly to your people that love the second amendment and telling them that they can own all the assault rifles they want, your government has the ability to precision drop a missile from over 10 kilometres above, from a virtually silent, unmanned, and practically invisible drone. All they need is to legally define you as an terrorist.

Of all the things to attack the game industry for. They are abusing financial standards left and right, because the NRA is having a frown they're insisting on using games to divert THAT argument again.

Sure, between a corrupt corporate shill(Clinton) and a corrupt AND moronic corporate shill(Trump), the latter certainly seemed like the lesser evil, didn't it?

Both candidates for the last election were fucking awful. At the time I felt like Trump was the lesser of the two evils but now I feel like we were screwed no matter who got into office.
