It's an organ determined to be superfluous by your own body. That's why you're in pain. Your body is wrenching at disgust that it must put up with such a useless thing, and is violently demanding it's removal. This is the only acceptable explanation for your pain, as Jim F*ing Stirling, does not suffer mortal afflictions such as inflammation or infections. Anyway, once removed, ensure that it's passed on to medical science for doctor's to examine. While it's a superfluous organ, it is the pinnacle of what that organ should look like. Stand strong, Jim! You're donation of your body's cast-off will advance medical science for us mortals by decades (assuming we're able to grasp it's many intricacies).
