April 2023 Update

Hey there,

I took a month's break in March. It is why I paused payment during March. During that time, I took time away from the internet, finished a school quarter, and revisited old interests, namely reading books.

One of the main things that bothered me after release was the lack of planning that went into the feature work. I would get an idea for a feature and go straight to implementing it in the code. Maybe I would have a brief description of the feature or a list of what the feature should do, but this would come after I finished writing the initial code to get the basics of the feature to work.

Reading more about how others developers planned their projects and taking a project management course helped me better understand different techniques for organizing large software projects. For example, I am using digital planning tools to help me start the pre-planning stages. I created an idea board on Figma, an interface design app with project management features, detailing some of the things I want in the mod and fleshing out those ideas into functioning features.

Seeing how each idea with each other helps me better understand what ideas I can add onto, ideas I can further develop, and ideas I can toss. Doing this also minimizes the context switching between feature work I am prone to doing while working within code. Hopefully, I am working towards a simple build pipeline into brainstorming ideas, finalizing feature specifications, building the feature, releasing small prototypes, getting feedback, revising, and repeating.

With that said, the next couple of months will look like the following:

The Birds and the Bees: I will be focusing on improving the performance issues and missing strings before I add any new features.
Dark Necessities: Brainstorming and finalizing features and creating an improved minimal viable product (MVP) to release.

I can’t wait to see what the next couple of months are going to look like, and I thank you for continuing to support my work.
