The Jimquisition: A Cautionary Post-Mortem Of Evolve
Added 2017-01-23 16:38:28 +0000 UTCBattleborn is not the only 2K Games release to have suffered indignity this generation. Evolve, more famous for its DLC model than anything it did as a game, was another multiplayer shooter that failed to do anything better than fail.
The fate of Evolve serves as a cautionary tale to any would-be project banking on additional content to make its money. Audience goodwill is a finite resource, and when you push for excess at the expense of quality, you might just find out how finite it is.

The Concept be hind it honestly reminds me of the area events in Monster Hunter. Only in an FPS, and with the monster actually being controlled by a player, the lack of crafting to upgrade your gear, create consumables, the lack of cats that speak in puns.

2017-01-24 12:02:34 +0000 UTCThe price of games these days plummets so quickly. I wonder if that is a factor in why publishers want so much dlc to add money. Doom, for example, launched May 2016 for $60. By October 2016 it was $20 during the Halloween sale. In only 5 months lost 66% of its value. Maybe i'm miss remembering pricing trends but I feel games used to keep their value much longer. If you have to cut the price of your game so quickly after launch then it does make sense to look for money elsewhere I’m not at all trying to defend these practices. I don’t get why they destroy the value of their games by cutting price so early. It might be coincidence but Nintendo doesn’t really drop the price of their games and compared to other companies their dlc practices are quite fair. It's also worth noting that I often buy Nintendo games at launch (since as I said their price doesn’t really ever drop) but with other companies I just wait for a sale. There is a reason I know Doom was only $20 back on Halloween. Why spend $60 when you know it will be 1/3rd of that real soon? The entire system is just killing itself. “We need to trick them into pre ordering so they buy the game when it's $60 and not $20. Collector's editions and season passes will also help with that. Then for those who don’t pre order we need lots of dlc. That way after we drop the price of the game itself down to nothing we can still nickel and dime them for more money.”
