The Jimquisition: Final Fantasy And Patchwork Narratives

Square Enix has a roadmap of significant post-launch updates to Final Fantasy XV, going so far as to pledge entire narrative additions.

The idea of patching in more story is interesting, and in FFXV's case it's even admirable. There is a downside to it, however, one that we ought to be mindful of.

That's good for me since I don't get many games when they're initially released. I wait for a sale. But that's bad for games since so much depends on week-one sales. If game companies are going to depend so much on initial release sales, then they shouldn't be doling out content over the course of months!

I'm not a final fantasy belieber but, you may have convinced me to give this one a try. I enjoy the art and animal designs but I am impatient as all hell! I hate watching a 30 minute movie sequence about some crap love story when all I want to do is ride a giant man bird thing! The normalized-weird-world in which everything is waiting for a patch can only be out botched by early access games. Tell-tell sign the game will never be finished or worth the money paid for it. I'm talking about you BUGBEAR!!! 😆

Good point about games preservation. I think it's a vital aspect of gaming that doesn't get the attention it deserves.
