Even if school education is now repurposed for "preparing a workforce", it's not doing a very good job of that, either. It's like we're in the super shitty mid-transitional stage where the students aren't getting any real benefit from either end.

2015-08-16 12:34:05 +0000 UTCAs a teacher (well almost^^) I need to comment on your education discussion :) I disagree with the idea that schools are supposed to prepare you for life in the sense of learning how to do your taxes. This is a common misconception both in politics and the public. The idea behind our education ideology was to create open minded and critically thinking individuals. That was the promise of the bourgois. It moved more and more away from true education in order to create the work force the economy demands. That is actually the reason why it is as horrible as you all so well described and why the social aspect is mostly completely absent. I don't want to lecture you^^ But if anyone is interested in the whole education issue, I would highly recommend the works of Theodor W. Adorno on that issue. One of the brightest minds of the 20th century and one of the harshest critics of our education system.
