How much is the Loki version of Jimquisition?

I pushed the button in my email and I got the thing, which was this video. And I was happy.

So do these game developers focus so heavily on DLC because they've ran the numbers and somehow a company ends up making more money that way? And fuck how the consumer feels, it's all about the money? I think we can all agree that when we see all of these different DLC choices, we are just left feeling confused/like we are missing out on something. Why would a marketing team make you want to feel like you are missing out on the game unless you spend the most money? I may be scum but when there are more and more games being released this way with developers basically trying to make me "feel" like my purchase of the basic game isn't worth the money I'm paying, piracy sure "feels" a lot less like the evil route.

And what I'm left wondering is like. How exactly is Evolve MORE built from the ground up and supportive of DLC then, let's just say, Rock Band? They're claiming this is a new high-point in the industry for that, but it would seem that a whole network of getting almost all the content for your game through microtransactions already exists. And let's not talk about them releasing the closed beta after the game has gone gold. And it's all a shame. I wasn't going to get the game because I don't like MP-only titles in general, but it at least seemed like it was interesting and trying something new. And then AAA just had to muck it all up. Lately it seems more and more that anything good out of AAA is in spite of itself, instead of because of it.

I was reading the very same RPS article a few days ago, chuckling to myself thinking, "Oh, it'd be fun for Jim to have a go at this." AND THUS IT WAS SO. The only Evolve DLC I would purchase is the pack where Laura Kate narrates your progress as the monster: You kill a hunter - *whispering* "Glub glub." A hunter shoots you - "You f'ckin' WOT, MATE?!" You evolve - "I can't work out which end's the pointy bit." You lose the match - "Is Bloodborne out yet?"

I got to play the Beta (?), this weekend. Played the Monster tutorial (controls felt a little weird), felt sad that it was pure multiplayer game, and went back to Warframe. The concept sounds good and interesting even if it's not my particular cup of tea. But the whole DLC bollocks and the fate of Titanfall (wow, tht was actually very appropriately named in retrospect) I don't see it as a worthwhile purchase. if Ori and the Blind Forest comes with Feels DLC, I'm giving up gaming period.

Just suck it up and get with the program, jim-sterling-son. Can't you cut your videos up into like 2 min segments and spread them over different networks? If I order now, can I get almost all of them please? I'd also like to buy a different ending afterwards, maybe with you praising AAA. That'd be great.

I'm excited for Evolve. While I'm watching your video, I'm really wondering what their Marketing is thinking. I only want DLC presented in this way if the game is free or cheap, like Killer Instinct for XBO. If I were in their position with this distribution method, I'd make a Free Hunter Demo. I'd sell the Base game for $20 with 4 Hunters, one of each type, ready to go, no Monsters. Since it's asymmetric, that'd make it more Hunter than Monster players as general math, which seems right. Then I'd make other playable Hunters $5 each, singly. For Monsters, probably $10-15 each according to the standard Skylanders/Infinity/amiibo has set, sans figurines.

For me, Evolve will always be the game that was at PAX for years, and when it finally comes out of the trade shows I've lost the ability to care because it turns out it's fairly standard. Also, garbage DLC nonsense.
