The Jimquisition 04: GRAND THEFT AUSTRALIA

This week's Jimquisition covers the decision by Target and Kmart in Australia to no longer stock copies of Grand Theft Auto V. It's a tricky subject, but I think I got through it calmly and rationally. That obviously means people are going to start screaming.

Wait a moment 7 thousand a month to make videos

mistyjmurillo raises some interesting counterpoints to your arguments, Jim. I think we should hear her out.

my co-worker's sister makes $81 /hr on the computer . She has been without work for 8 months but last month her pay check was $12474 just working on the computer for a few hours. why not try here www.walletprofit.com

Similar thing is happening here in New Zealand. The Warehouse (one of the largest retail chains) is pulling *all* of its R18 content. It's rumoured to be largely because of GTA V and because 'family friendly' = bland, inoffensive and uncontrovesial. But at the end of the day, it's probably not going to make much difference. If The Warehouse aren't going to sell R18 content, services like Steam, competing stores or websites like Mighty Ape sure as hell will.

Jim...I'm now very sad to learn that Captain Rainbow not only exists but that I will never be allowed to play it. The original Chibi-Robo! is one my favorite titles, and anything more from skip Ltd. with such a joyous sense of wonder and strangeness would be most welcome in my eyes. Are those Operation Rainfall chaps still kicking around? They got the games they wanted...could we petition them to make another petition for CAPTAIN RAINBOW?!

About 2 Hours ago I unlocked the Captain Rainbow Throphy in Smash Bros und thought how much I would like to play that Game. Some Days everything fits together perfectly.

It's good to have someone talking about this without resorting to hyperbole. That being said I think you go too easy on the petition to me it seems a lot more than "slightly disingenuous" (<a href="http://goo.gl/Tg2UCp" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://goo.gl/Tg2UCp</a> for those who haven't seen it). While I think you made a good point regarding the actual risk to video games by this stunt, I would have been interested to hear more about your feelings on the petition itself. It reminds me a bit of the Feminist Frequency where Anita is videoed playing Hitman, dragging strippers bodies about as if that was the aim of the game saying: "Players are meant to derive a perverse pleasure from desecrating the bodies of unsuspecting virtual female characters." . I know you're trying to avoid being put in either of the mouth-foamy camps on either Sarkesian-and-co or Gamergate's side, but I'd be interested to see more balanced discussion on the issues brought up.

Great Jimquisition! Insightful, and funny as butts. My favourite combination!

I'll start a petition that enforces all people to thank god for Jim.

Great recap as ever.

I think few people knew. Who else would buy GTA at Target and Kmart than a kid, (and therefor not suppose to) or a confused mom or dad? The game is for adults, and I have gotten the impression that most adult gamers buy games online. Either through shipping or digital download. I live in a small time with only a local toy shop as the place to buy games. And obviously, being a toy shop for children there are games they don't want to put out. That is very, very understandable. And since I am, at last by the definition of the law, an adult. I can just buy my games online. Most of the time, for cheaper than any store price. To me there is no justifiable outrage for this beyond a, "I disagree." But looking at the Youtube comments, it's like this video personally kicked down the mailbox of every outraged gamer.

I never even realised Target and Kmart sold games. I bought some mugs from there though last month. They are quite nice: plain and functional. Hold tea and coffee and are dishwasher safe too. A bit last-gen, very lo-res. 7 out of 10.

People seem to forget that censorship is forcibly stopping a voice or information from being publicly released, not the ABSENCE of there not being available information. Its like saying that people refuse to say "God is a lie!" in public because their rights are being repressed, not because they just don't want to say it.

Great episode.

For some reason, I want to play Captain Rainbow... Not sure why.
