Yutaka has never had very good health even before moving with her cousin Konata Izumi part way through Lucky Star. Having been absent from school for days her friend Minami begins to worry and decides to try and visit and Yukata could certainly use the attention though she may not want it in some ways. In fact, it’s somewhat referenced there, though I really didn’t have a sense of how I would pace all these out then and largely consider that reference non-canon now. In any event, Yutaka is a cute member of the cast that you can’t help but want to protect and her history of a frail and often sickly body made for an easy reason that she would be diapered. Unlike the others who were punished or playing around, Yutaka would wear padding out of a need of protection. As I started to develop the story I started to really examine what I thought such circumstances may be like. Yutaka is already physically stunted and has been robbed of social experience due to regular illness, adding a need for protective underwear on top of all that would likely be a lot to bear for someone that age. How do others treat her? How does she view herself? As this piece took shape I found myself truly feeling for our littlest member of the cast and rooting for her. It isn’t a story with something to overcome, but one of acceptance, one that members of the community who dealt with similar trials in their own lives approached me since and said how much they felt Yutaka’s struggle. This story was also the one with the last of the ten girls to get diapered with Minami as Otome Road and Substance in 2D handled Patty and Hiyori respectively. Minami was the last up and I think this story handled getting her back to padding for a good reason.
