X-ing Over - Role Play 1 - Office Work

“Tell me how this plane works. Now.” Jaina demanded sternly. Her magic worked, to some extent, but not the fullest. It felt to her after she awoke in the strange city that her abilities themselves were being subtly dulled, but not enough to feel like a threat. It was like the difference between casting on and off a Leyline. The place she was in was simply not suited to her magic, or vice versa.

“I can't...” The girl in front of her struggled in the face of the Mage's overwhelming authority.

“I don't-” She gasped.

Jaina saw her struggling and sympathized when she saw the girl had very little to offer. The first person she found was a blonde woman with impressive breasts jogging. Her figure was barely contained by tight sportswear that seemed fairly obvious in purpose, but completely foreign to the otherworldly caster in appearance and make.
“I understand. I apologize but please just search your mind for anything that you can think of.” Jaina freed her up somewhat in a show of good faith.

The girl breathed deeply and seemed confused, then a look of realization crossed her formerly dull expression.
“D-don't...”

“Don't what?” Jaina inquired.

“Don't let them give you a-”

“Miss.” A male voice interjected.
“Can you please let that girl go? Whatever you're doing, it's highly inappropriate.”

Jaina relented and released the girl to jog off rather quickly, her but still found time to wiggle enticingly as she did, however.
“I'm sorry.” Jaina offered genuinely. She knew what she was doing was wrong, however she felt like she needed to asks some questions and she could not easily tell friend from foe in whatever realm she was in.
“But if I need to interrogate you for answers next, I will.” She added, lifting her hand. Her other tightened around her staff. She wore the same clothes that she had on when she was taken to the strange realm. Her long, conservative blue and white robes with a silver plate over the chest and guards at the arms and shoulders.

“You don't have to interrogate me.” The man claimed. He was dressed like a constable, but she had no reference for what that was so the Mage simply thought he was dressed somewhat smartly.

“I'll tell you whatever you need to know.  You're in the 'Crossing.' This is a land that sits between a lot of others and I can tell pretty clearly that you're a 'Traveler.'”

“You're answering me, but tell me what all that actually means for me? I want to leave.”

“Of course. All Travelers want to move on from the Crossing. So far as we've been able to tell, the best way out has always been to buy a ticket out.” He explained innocently.

“A ticket? Why must I do that? I can simply-” She grimmaced as she tried to form a portal. The blue, circular pool of magic formed in front of her but instead of the surface leading to another place, it simply showed the other side of where she was standing, as if it was completely empty.
“Damn...”

“Yep.” He chuckled.
“Traveling through other means seems pretty improbable.”

“How do I buy a ticket?” She breathed, rubbing her eyes.

“Most Travelers get a  job or a role. Something that'll get them a ticket for their effort after a little while.” He clicked his tongue.
“Now, I know... A lot of you come from different standings and places so it's gonna take a lot of getting used to before you'll-”

“I was in the middle of something quite important and I need to return fast, so just tell me how I can get one of these 'roles' or 'jobs' and I will use my magic to accelerate my performance.”

The man let out an impressed whistle at the Mage's resolve. “Well then...” He grinned imperceptible.
“I can certainly help you out there. Were you wanting a job or a role?”

“What is the difference in this context? I know what they mean, but what do you mean when you say those things?”

“A job is something you do, while a role is more about your place in our city. Jobs give you resources through work and roles give them more through circumstance.”

“Okay... How about a job, then? Where can I get one of those?”

-

“Let's see... Ms. 'Mage.'” The man stared at her calmly from behind his desk. He had a very commanding aura about him. He was older than her in appearance and larger in size but not impressive when it came to looks. In fact, he was quite unappealing to Jaina. She ignored that thought, however, and continued listening as he spoke, since he was the arbiter of the 'job' that she needed to acquire.
“What are your qualifications? Our company has many positions open to it, and many 'positions' within those positions.” He grinned.

She had no idea what he meant by that, but she shrugged it off and spoke her qualifications confidently. “I believe I am suited to lead. I have experience leading a Nation and a City State. I am the most accomplished academic in the world that I come from and I have assisted in saving it multiple times. My magical skill is unmatched, in relation to my academic ability.”

The man leaned back and gave a few measured nods during her statement. “That all certainly is very, very cute.” He offered in a dismissive tone. Jaina made an annoyed expression.
“Very cute... I think we have quite an important role within the company that places you in charge of many important and challenging tasks. If you're up for it, I can give you the job.”

“Important and challenging? I will take it, then.”

The man clapped his hands together once. “Then it's settled! Welcome aboard.”

“When is my first...” Jaina felt a strange, light feeling wash over her.
“Day?”

The man gave her a worried look. “Oh, honey? Are you okay?”

“What?”

“You've been with us so long that I can't even remember your first day.”

“Wait... What?” Jaina furrowed her brow and looked down. Her robes had been replaced with a cute little office-skirt and blouse combo. She wore tight black stockings and a smart-looking pair of high heels.

“Honey, if you keep having these little episodes... Well, you remember what we spoke about.”

Jaina Panicked and nodded her head. She inclined it apologetically. “I'm SO sorry Mr. Director. I must've been daydreaming again.”

“Oh yeah?” He smirked.
“The one where you're a 'powerful' witch or something in a magic world?” He spoke demeaningly, but it was deserved, she felt. Her cheeks flushed to a deep red.
“The girls talk.” He explained.

“M... Mage...” She muttered under her breath.

“What was that?”

“Nothing, sir! So sorry. I have everything that you wanted concerning that one client you were asking about.” Jaina offered with a  bright smile. She was on her way to the VP position thanks to the work she had done with the client. Their business was going to improve the firm's status in the Crossing.

“That's perfect. I need you to hand all those personally to my Son Derek. I'm grooming him to take over, but he's not doing to well. I want you to help him by showing him what you've done on this client and...” He winked.
“Between you and me, if he gets a bit of credit it'll look good for you.”

“Uhm... Sir.” Jaina's eye twitched. Her fists clenched. She imagined him in a block of ice before her, getting pushed out of the tenth story of the building where his desk sat in his nice corner office. Down to the ground, shattered into a million pieces. She imagined herself as a powerful mage descending to observe the havoc caused due to the slight. Then she snapped out of it, back to reality with the same grinning, disgusting man that she had to serve sitting in front of her.
“Yes sir.”

“Good girl. Smart girl.” He complimented.

The moment she left the office she leaned against the wall. “My... Fucking head.” Jaina groaned.
“What is going on today? Today of all days... Get it together...” She begged.

“Uhm... Are you okay?” Casey questioned. The woman was part of the secretary staff. Derek's. Her clothes were out of place and her peach lipstick was a little smeared. Jaina narrowed her eyes.

'She is shameless. She literally doesn't care that she looks like she just blew him in his office.' Jaina fought back her bad thoughts and smiled.
“How's Derek, I need to go meet with him.”

“Oh! Derek is awesome. We just got out of a meeting, too.” She giggled.

“Yeah, I bet.” Jaina muttered.
“What are you doing here?”

“I was just going to go tell the Director that I'm taking leave.”

“Good luck. Unless it's one of-”

“Not pregnant, but I AM getting married.” She showed Jaina the ring. A piece of blue-ish ice placed prominently on a band around her finger. It looked familiar, but she just could not place it.

“Lucky guy...” Jaina let Casey pass and made her way to Derek's office.
