Process: Diana's wardrobe

I meant for this to go out yesterday.

When I originally started thinking about what kind of comic I wanted Familiar to be, I decided I wanted to go full slice of life about New York and aesthetic. I wanted to try to show real life things like characters who wear different outfits, cityscapes and stuff like that. It's been an ambitious goal and I'm not really where I want to be yet, but I'm getting there.

One thing that really helps is that my partner makes outfit moodboards for me for Diana and Sybil and Rosemary. I like fashion but I'm not really a fashion person, so sometimes I make weird man mistakes (henceforth "manstakes") about outfits. It's nice to have someone who can basically look at the characters as people and then populate a wardrobe for them and tell me which outfits are for which kind of activity.

So for this week's process post, here's a screenshot of one of the moodboards for Diana. You'll see some of her past outfits in here. We're really inspired by Kate Middleton and Lucy Liu as Joan Watson on Elementary.
