It reminded me of a joke by the English comedian from the 1970s, Tommy Cooper: “I inherited a painting and a violin which turned out to be a Rembrandt and a Stradivarius. Unfortunately, Rembrandt made lousy violins and Stradivarius was a terrible painter.”

2024-08-26 11:22:09 +0000 UTCRe: male singers beloved by gay people (or the lack of them) - maybe I'm biased but one token straight male artist is definitely Leonard Cohen, I know his poetry definitely speaks to the lesbian audience (as in screaming crying throwing up bcs his way of describing love and women taps into so many feelings at once). It's not cultish the way gay men treat female celebrities (thank God...) and it's more individual, whereas the obsession with "icons" has more of a collective vibe. Probably has to do with how different queer communities are structured tbh
