Very late comment, but there were slave Greeks. Slavery was more of a matter of status, you could have become a slave because you sold yourself to slavery to pay your debts or being captured in battle and your family not having valuables to pay for ransom your freedom. Spartans enslaved other Greek tribes and so did Athenians. In Athens, before Democracy, a lawmaker Solon passed a law prohibiting Athenian citizens from selling themselves to slavery to pay their debts.
