It was definitely a spar. This is just a guess, Mao-Mao solving the riddle of the 3 doors revealed descendants of the first Empress were colorblind and can not tell the difference between green and red, children with that trait are considered true heirs since this trait was needed to solve the door riddle sidenote, the current emperor doesn’t have that trait. After Jinshi’s assassination attempt Lakhan probably realized there’s a secret faction of the royal family that wants the throne. And is weeding them out in his own sneaky way.
