THE SHINING and Lost Highway

EDIT: Updated with final video link.

Hey all!

**Heads up, the beginning of this video contains some flashing images. I don't think it flashes enough to cause seizures , but if you want to skip that part to be safe, it's from 0:55 to 1:01.**

Here's a rough edit of the latest video. It's about The Shining, and Lost Highway, with bits about Clockwork Orange and Blue Velvet, as well.

The final version drops this Tuesday, and there are a few little glitchy issues to fix and some transitions that need work, but this edit is totally watchable and contains pretty much everything the final version will (minus one final joke at the end that I still need to add).

Thanks as always for your support!

Thank you Juhani! My upcoming videos are much more about stuff I love, and less about picking things apart, so I hope you enjoy them!

Wow! Just wow! I'm sorry to be a bit late to the show, but having both Kubrick and Lynch in the same issue was great. I did ask you for one and you gave me two. Thanks! I never knew the Shining was about child abuse, thanks for pointing that out, it seems so obvious now. Sounds like both Kubrick and Lynch are good guys for bringing up the misogyny but at least Kubrick went too far with Shelley Duvall. I'm sorry to hear she's feeling bad these days. I loved her roles in Robert Altman's films. Especially Three Women. It feels like a superpower watching these films through your eyes! Your analytic powers are so remarkable. Perhaps there could be less denouncing and more focus to the observation and analysis? But then again, I'm a 60-years old man and not necessarily up-to-date of how much there is to hate. I'm grateful for the insight nevertheless. Worth every penny and more!

This is what swayed me to give? patreon? pay? you. I have been a Kubrick fan for a bit. Never really agreed with his methods, but, the visual aesthetic is just lovely. Though, that may be partially due to others. Thank you for this!

Another great video essay. Thank you for the deep dive into Lynch. I knew about Kubrik's inhumane directing (especially viz. Shelly Duval, who I adore as an actor), but I've avoided David Lynch since seeing Blue Velvet in high school film club because it was so shocking and uncomfortable. Learning that his actors felt safe and empowered in their performances makes me interested to tackle movies I've always avoided, like Eraserhead and Lost Highway. You have a great gift for expanding my understanding of film, and I hope you enjoy making your videos as much as I enjoy watching them.
