Updaaaaate!
Added 2020-04-29 22:02:54 +0000 UTCHey all! Hope you're staying safe out there (or in there, while we're all locked in).
Since it's the end of the month I wanted to give you an update on upcoming videos. We have been working on a BUNCH of scripts I'm really excited about.
1. Looking at Tarantino's filmography through the lens of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls -- Recently I saw Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, and it was really weird how many Tarantino movies seem to reference this one movie. It's like a Rosetta Stone for his filmography in a strange way. So I'm quickly talking about how it applies to EVERY one of his movies (in a lighthearted way, not an in depth analysis). And then we'll see if we can come to any deeper conclusions about Tarantino and his films based on what we find. This is probably the next video we'll shoot, since the script is nearly done. We hope to shoot as early as next week, then have it up on YouTube a week or two after that.
2. Rey. This might be a long one... I recently went back and watched all 9 mainline Star Wars films, plus I listened to a few of the audio commentaries. I'm exploring the different approaches that JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson took when making their Star Wars movies, and how those approaches resulted in what ended up on screen. It's partly a personal essay, and partly an exploration of directorial intent. I have this video fully outlined, and I'm writing it out as a script now. I'm really, really, really excited about this one.
3. Into the Snyderverse. This will be a multi-part series on the works of Zack Snyder, and how he creates meaning within his films. We have the first two parts pretty much written already (an introductory video that defines and explains "cinematic language," and a video on his directorial debut Dawn of the Dead). I think they'll be 15 minutes, each. We aren't sure how many episodes this series will be, since we are *not* going to do a video for every single one of his movies. Most of them will be more centered around theme, rather than individual works. Looks like it'll be at least 4 videos, if not more. But we wanted to break it up so that we can keep releasing videos at a more regular rate. Will this series cause me to give up on Saving Martha??? Only time will tell.
Again, the release order of these videos is very up in the air, but as we get close to finishing videos I'll give you a heads up about what's coming. I'm also brainstorming a few weird sketch and short film ideas, so you might see some of that stuff pop up soon too, depending on how it goes. Thanks as always for your support! And SAVE MARTHA (for now)!!!!!

The Zack Snyder prologue was very interesting, as was the first part of the series, thank you! I was surprised to learn about the bad feedback you got. Smells like tribalism. I'm looking forward to your take on Tarantino. Your Man of Steel analysis feels like a soft landing to the übermensch narrative that has crept back to popular imagery for a long time now before breaking into mainstream with strongmen presidents now everywhere. I think Kill Bill twenty years ago was the first to spot it so clearly. I always felt Tarantino is like a canary in a quarry, sensitive to detect (maybe even warn) of the bad winds blowing rather than promoting the ideology. I have learned so much of your analysis, really looking forward to it. Also very happy to see you so fresh and energetic. Bad times are upon us what with the epidemic and all. Keep up the good work fighting everyday fascism in art and life.
