Gimme that Sweet Sweet Feedback on Content, Content, Content!

First off, thanks for being so patient over the last month. I was basically dead for a week and a half with the flu, which slowed down the latest video (on Sorry To Bother You). BUT! I'm back in action, and we're finalizing that script so we can get the video out real soon!

Second, I've been meaning to do a livestream to celebrate reaching 10k subscribers on YouTube. And now we've got over 20k, so IT'S TIME! This Saturday, the 23rd, at 3pm PST, I'm going to watch a movie live on Netflix, and you all can watch with me and chat and do a Q&A and make fun of the movie or whatever we feel like! I'll do another poll, that day, to decide which movie we watch, and we'll have it set up so if you use Chrome you can use the extension that syncs your Netflix to mine.

Third, I'M GOING TO MAKE MORE STUFF MORE OFTEN! And I want your input! Obviously I'll still prioritize the film theory videos, since that's been the focus of my channel. In addition to this poll, leave me some comments to elaborate, or to give suggestions for anything that isn't listed here! But yeah, I think my Patreon and YouTube have gotten enough momentum that I can try to make this my "day job," instead of delivering groceries to rich people who make you go back to the grocery store three times because Whole Foods doesn't happen to carry the exact kind of fancy cherries they want from one specific cherry farm. Ah, the life of a struggling actor/writer!

So here's what I've got in mind (choose however many you like!)

Movie discussion live streams! (Every other week) Just a simple stream where we talk about a movie. Maybe bring on a guest, too. Take questions/comments from chat, and just do a very chill discussion of whatever movie (new or old) we choose.

A docu-series on film production and comedy writing! This would kind of be the inverse of my film analysis videos. Instead of looking at a finished movie and dissecting it, I'd discuss what actually goes into developing, writing, producing, and releasing content. I'd do interviews with a bunch of my comedy and film buddies to get a behind the scenes peek into how this stuff is actually made. Usually, "behind the scenes" stuff is only produced in order to market, not really to show you the reality of film making. One of my friends was just saying that a writing class she's taking here in LA is terrible, and the teacher gives terrible notes, so part of the goal of this show would be to help people get started writing and making their own stuff. Maybe like a low-budget film making boot camp kind of thing.

Sketches and short films! This would require a bit of a time commitment, but sometimes I get the itch to do a sketch or a short, and we could do that semi-regularly. Movie parodies, or original ideas, or topical stuff.

Just do more film analysis, more often! Pretty straightforward. Don't worry about live streaming on a regular basis. Just make more videos about film theory/cultural criticism/etc.

I'm excited to see what you all think!

As somebody who always (okay, not always, maybe only since I was 3 or 4) dreamed of acting/writing/performing in a hopefully humorous manner, but also liked things like 'being able to pay rent' and 'eating food' I would love to hear more about the more behind-the-scenes aspects of production and the like.

I haven't seen anything yet from you that hasn't been well worth watching. My vote is for you to produce more of anything you're passionate about, and the audience will be rewarded. Thanks for the great content!!!

Hope you're feeling a bit better? :) And FANTASTIC that you're on the cusp of being able to make this a 'full time gig'!! In answer: All of the above! You are great at talking about films, and you have some great friends/buddies/contacts both in terms of knowledge and in terms of screen presence etc for the ideas, and you have a great mind for sketches etc, so these are definitely great. And definitely just go with what you feel like you want to do - patrons are really supposed to be here to invest in you and enable you to do the right content to fit you (imho!) not to just buy the content they want, so do what feels natural! But also feel free to go nuts and do collabs and challenges and Q&As and weird film theories and all the random little bits and pieces. We hope you don't give up the stuff that we started watching you for (e.g. film talk) but half of the reason we watched is you and your zany self so you do you and good luck with it all.

Sometimes sketches can be a more effective way of commenting on Movies/TV; parodies, fake “deleted scene” etc. can be fun. Just make sure you’re enjoying making it.
