2025-11-02 21:45:17 +0000 UTCGreat catch on the little chains imagery that Shaft slipped in to the talk with Shinobu at the end. They do a lot of those, and it can be hard to tell which ones are actually relevant and which are them just having a field day with the backdrop to the conversation. I think it's also maybe relevant that the particular chains they chose were those little pedestrian fences you see at parks and such, that don't really keep anything out but usually just outline perimeters and such. It fits Shinobu's desire to have plausible deniability of it being an order to assist Araragi, so as to not lose face, the meaning is in perception. Layers and layers of fakes and masks, Nisemonogatari is a real treat when it's at it's best with all the social constructs, assumptions, and real fake things that make up inter-personal relations.
