To the point that it makes you wonder if Death Note being good was a fluke. It's honestly not that much. Most of the reason that we think they're so smart is that they constantly guess what the other is going to do which obviously the person writing it would know. Which leads me to believe that the authors were actually frauds that managed to make something good through dumb luck. It's the only explanation for why everything they've written since, which includes the death note side story stuff, has been garbage.
