Yeah the horror and gore seems censored quite a bit. If I recall they were much more unsettling in the manga too. The same goes for Caria, the burn scars don't look like much.

Because they talked about skin and not being able to become human so much I thought they'd be malformed humans without any skin. So just malformed flesh with other peoples skin pinned or sewn over them. These were kinda lackluster in comparison to what was in my head.
