So, in fact, the idea that the writers were building is clear, but it was done quickly and awkwardly. The point is that Ben lost all the battles against the Aggressor, including the ones where he tried to save someone, and each loss in the chain led to the next one, or even worse, like with the guy from the cube, where saving someone led to death. This led to Kevin's suffering, and now Kevin is flying around the universe, killing everyone. that dude almost went far for 8 dollars, and Ben decided to reconsider his actions. Every delay costs someone's life, so he either has to quickly cure Kevin or kill him, because in Ben's head, the situation is exactly the same as with the aggressor. They'll save someone, but even if they succeed, it will still lead to someone's death. The writers quickly and awkwardly presented this idea, but it's actually quite reasonable, if you think about it. although it looks like that, and of course the fact that he gave up so quickly, considering that he's his best friend and older brother, doesn't help the situation.
