The nickname for the horse in Japan is "The century end overlord" because the fucking horse was a total goddamn beast. The reason why they're bringing that up is in the future due to the rule change that was brought upon by Oguri Cap he was allowed to enter the classics races. I believe that horse still has the highest gross income made of all time. The horse shows up in multiple different series with more of a main character in road to the top and also shows up in the movie. They even have cameos with Oguri Cap.

At that point, the newspaper about the outcome of the Japan Derby was already behind her. That's why we see the two fading out (it's literally the transition between the G1 and the G2).
