I assume she was just regularly lucky in the plane crash, but that lead to the reporter giving 1 trust value to her involving luck which stacked more and more the more people believe in her because the thing about 'ever since she was little', she was probably around 4 years old during the crash by my math so she wouldn't remember it well I assume. I also suspect the trauma is why we don't see her speak until the time skip.
