Country Bumpkin Swordsman Ep1

Comments

Appreciate the thorough breakdown.

If black outranks platinum, sounds like the adventurer hierarchy here is aligned with modern day credit cards.

An interesting detail about how he got his home. The girls were bickering about where he should stay, if not at their respective homes. With the adventurer girl trying to argue for a location that happens to be closer to the guild for security, but is further from the barracks, and closer to her. While the knight girl implores for him to move to a place closer to her house, under the excuse of how he would be frequenting the barracks. Eventually the air between the girls gets heated enough to start sizing each other up, with warrior foresight to judge who could take the other's head first. But their foresight always see him taking their swords away, just before their blades would reach the other's neck. Ultimately he got a home farther from either the barracks or guild, but was closer to the blacksmith and market. There was also a cut scene of the girls taking him to a blacksmith to get him a sword. Where he unknowingly sliced cleanly through a a rolled up goza target, with an unfinished blunt sword. The first strike from Hemmbritz that Beryl parried, was fast charge, with a throat stab as a feint, aiming for a horizontal slash toward Beryl's torso. Ending with Beryl parrying Memmbritz charge, resulting in him losing balance. Where Beryl sidestepped Hemmbritz's fall, as Beryl continued his sword motion to the back of Hemmbritz's neck. The blow to the chin with the hilt of the training sword in the anime, was a grip bash to the cheek in the manga. Where after deflecting the blow with his one hand on his practice sword's blade, the natural motion resulted in Beryl hitting Hemmbritz in the cheek with the grip. As the spar progressed, both Hemmbritz and Aleucia noting the key to Beryl's abilities being his inhuman kinetic vision, that lets him lock in on the tiniest of gaps in his opponent's form, and easily capitalizing on it. With Hemmbritz wondering how many times he would have died to Beryl, had they been using real swords. Hemmbritz's special technique, Rotating Slash. Is an attack where he obfuscates his hands with his back to his opponent, so that his reach becomes harder to tell. While he preforms a horizontal spin jump in the air, resulting in his incredible strength being magnified with centrifugal force. The fast sword strike, enhanced by the opponent not being able to grasp the distance by how he obfuscated his hands, results in an nearly unpredictable attack that shatters his opponent's defense. Beryl managed to evade the attack by stepping in with Hemmbritz's rotation at the exact moment before the attack came out. This is taking into account that Hemmbritz forced Beryl to lift a leg up first, to try and make it difficult for Beryl to dodge or counterattack. Beryl had further impressed Hemmbritz, by pointing out the flaws of his technique. Namely by pointing out that by stepping into it like how he did, would not only allow the opponent to dodge the attack, but put them in his blind spot. While acknowledging that if he hadn't done that, the attack would have cleaved through him and his sword.

On everything if you look at the opening again when they’re fighting the goons. You can literally see Alicia’s thong, it’s a fucking crazy design. I’ve read the manga and I think the animation does a great job showing the fluidity of fights which is a big thing the manga does.

For me it feels like MC just straight up ignores it. He always asks what the girl said. To me it feels like he's not believing what he hears and maybe doesn't want to believe what he hears because for him it is a pure teacher-disciple relationship and there is no place for romance in that. Thus he just ignores it and forgets it, maby some self-hypnosis and cope. Honestly I respect that. He has pride in has profession and principles to uphold. Obviously it's nice that he learns that he is OP but it would have been nice if the love interests were not his disciples because now it feels like he has to decide between hurting the girls or at least playing oblivious till the last second and abandoning his principles. Or, as this is entirely based on my impression of the character, maybe the show will prove me wrong and the show will later on unambiguously tell me he was just really oblivious and per chance didn't hear it clearly every single time a girl simps for him.

I would call this episode: "From hater to simp in 20 minutes"

The issue with Beryl, is that he stayed in such a backwater dojo as a teacher for so long. That he has developed a complex, where he doesn't view himself as anyone worth much renown.
