Don't complain about it, but I think he's timing things so that he can watch the s2 finale on Oct 1 before the s3 premier on Oct 2.

It's quite a dangerous situation because he'll eventually poison himself with his own mana as he can't push it out. I the Arc 3 novels, just after Julius kills Subaru as he is posessed, there's a Shadow Garden scene, and there's a few lines that describe Subaru's sins towards Satella: "Sloth, because I cannot wipe away your tears. Lust, because I want us to melt together and become one. Gluttony, because I want to consume you, to take all of you for myself. Greed, because I want to have everything that I love. Wrath, because I cannot forgive the absurdity of it all. Pride, because I scorn everything that is not you. Envy, because that is all I feel for the world that embraces you." This would explain why Subaru's Sloth Authority is short ranged and why it only has one hand, because its purpose is to wipe tears.
